National Girls in ICT Competition: Five Secondary Schools In Offa Showcase Innovative Solutions

Five schools in Offa, Kwara State has commenced participation in the National Girls in ICT Competition. The competition witnessed a flurry of activity as five schools convened at One Innovation Hub Offa (ONEIH) promptly at 11 a.m. Each school was allocated a two-hour window to refine and perfect their pitch preparations, showcasing their innovative solutions aimed at leveraging technology to address various societal challenges.

Participating secondary schools are: Ansar-Ud-Deen (AUD) College Offa, Anglican Comprehensive College (ACC) Offa, Nawar-U-Deen Grammar School Offa, Offa Grammar School (OGS) Offa, and St Claire’s Girls Secondary School Offa. Each school presents three girls.

The National Girls in ICT Competition is an initiative by Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy aimed at transforming Nigeria’s ICT landscape.

The FG, through the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, has made it possible for Nigerian girls to participate in its new initiative called the National Girls in ICT Competition.

This initiative is aimed at bridging the current gender gap in the ICT space in Nigeria, Winners in the competition would receive scholarships, laptops, trophies, and certificates from the government.

Here’s a breakdown of the solutions presented by each school:

1. St. Claire’s Girls School Solution: Crime-Guard – An Android application designed for crime prevention, integrating GPS technology for enhanced security measures.

2. A.U.D Solution: Guardian Track – A solution focused on ensuring in-school children’s safety and providing parental peace of mind through a GPS-based tracking system.

3. O.G.S Solution: E-Ducate Nigeria – A proposal aimed at empowering secondary school education through the integration of technology.

4. Nawar-U-Deen Grammar School Solution: Mobile Medicine – A mobile application designed to provide community healthcare information and services.

5. A.C.C Solution: Supply-Chain Security – A solution geared towards enhancing supply chain security, particularly within transportation and logistics systems.

The event, organized by the National Girls in ICT Initiative, serves as a platform to encourage and celebrate the involvement of young girls in the field of Information and Communication Technology.
